How do you know if you can dye a garment?
To know if you can dye a garment, you can start by looking at the composition on the label.
If your garment is made of natural or artificial textile fibers such as cotton, linen, hemp, silk, wool then dyeing is possible.
On the other hand, on synthetic fibers or materials such as raincoats, dyeing may be less effective or not work at all.

How to dye a garment easily?
There are several techniques for dyeing a garment, but we will look at the simplest techniques to obtain a quality result.
Using liquid dye
To dye a garment, the simplest and best textile dye technique is liquid dye that is fixed directly on the fabric.
You can also dilute standard paint with 50% water to make your dye, and keep the textile fibers supple.
Apply your dye with a brush or with a wool applicator in 2 or 3 layers. You can also soak your garment in a basin 2 or 3 times.
Making your own dye in a machine
The other dyeing technique is to use powdered dye and salt to fix the color, then run a program in the washing machine.
This method also allows you to dye a garment, but can be more dangerous for your health. These pictograms are often found on powdered dyes. Especially the last one which means that the product has a significant health risk.
How to fix color on a garment?
Once you have completed your dyeing, make sure that the color is well set, especially if you have dyed your garment with powder dye.
Fix with salt and vinegar
The most commonly used technique to fix color on textiles is to use coarse salt or vinegar in a basin filled with warm water, and soak your garment for about 1 hour.
Then rinse your garment in cold water or run a machine wash with a delicate program so that the colors do not bleed later.
Protect the paint
The other solution to fix the colors and protect the painting over time is to varnish your creation with matte varnish to keep a natural effect.
Varnishing is not mandatory with SneakArts paints but highly recommended if it is a customization for a customer. This step allows you to add additional protection.
