How to paint a stencil on fabric?
Use a stencil on fabric
Recovering the stencil on leather or plastic is possible by removing the self-adhesive part that interests you, or by using a transfer film to cut down on time.
In the following tutorial we will use the transfer film technique because we use a stencil with details.
To paint stencil on fabric, first make sure the stencil is sticked well and then take textile primer and our paint to complete your stencil.
Apply textile primer
Before applying a colour and to avoid smudging, apply 3-4 layers of textile primer, making sure all the layers are well covered.
If you apply a layer too thick, the paint may come off when you are about to remove the stencil. Worse, the paint that will come on it will not resist!
You must be able to see the textile fibers of your clothing that need to absorb the paint. So spread each layer well.
Apply the paint in the stencil
When you think you have filled the stencil with primer and the contours seem clogged, then all that remains is to apply paint.
To paint a stencil on fabric, use SneakArts paints and apply 2-3 thin layers with a flat brush. Let the paint dry between each layer.
Protect your stencil on the fabric
Start the painting
Once the stencil is finished on your fabric backing, we recommend you add a layer of finish. The matt finish is ideal in this case because it will keep the original effect of color.
Advice to wash your fabric
Even if the paint resists in the washing machine at 40 oC, it is recommended to wash it cold or with a gentle programme.
