How to get a metallic effect?

Metallic colors offer a very beautiful rendering when you want to add shine to your creations, whether with metallic or iridescent paint.

Metallic colors

There are several types of paints to achieve a shiny metallic finish that will enhance your designs. You can create gold, silver, or copper metallic effects using paints in these shades. Additionally, you can explore metallic colors like orange, blue, or pink.

If you want to add texture or a relief effect, glitter paints are a better option.

Chameleon paints

Chameleon paints, also called iridescent or duo chrome, offer a nice visual effect. The color shifts depending on the angle of view, transitioning, for example, from blue to purple, blue to green, or green to pink.

To achieve the best results, apply chameleon paints over a black base. However, they can also be mixed with other colors to add a metallic finish.

Using magic paints

Some paints are referred to as 'magic paints' because they change color based on light, UV exposure, temperature, or even glow in the dark.

Thermal paint

Thermochromic pigments create an impressive effect by changing color with temperature. For instance, a black color base can become transparent when exposed to heat above 31°C.

These paints can be used to make hidden messages or patterns appear. They also allow for creations that look different in summer versus winter.

UV paints

UV paints, made with photochromic pigments, react to sunlight. When exposed to UV rays, the colors change, and in the shade, the paint becomes translucent again.

This magical effect allows you to have designs that change under the sun, such as sneakers with two looks in one!

However, these pigments have a limited lifespan, so avoid prolonged sun exposure. Ideally, store your custom creations in the dark to preserve the effect.

Phosphorescent effect

Phosphorescent paint is perfect for designs that glow in the dark.

It charges during the day using sunlight or artificial light and glows once in the dark.

To achieve a uniform finish, apply 6 to 7 coats of phosphorescent paint.

Create your own painting effects

Create a pearly effect

Using white silver paint, you can mix your own colors to create a pearly effect similar to metallic finishes.

To do this, mix about 70% of your standard paint with 30% white silver paint. The resulting color will be lighter but will feature a shiny, metallic finish. This technique can work with other metallic colors, it's up to you to test it to get the desired result.

Add a neon effect

If you already have standard paints, you can mix white neon paint with any standard color to create a neon effect.

As with metallic paints, mix 70% of your base color with 30% neon paint.

Additionally, you can experiment with other neon colors to enhance the brightness of specific shades.
